One of Four Great Styles you can customize your way

Ever wished your team’s soccer jerseys were a bit more exciting? Ever wanted to stand out from all those other red and blue teams? Or how about soccer jerseys with a little more flair, something a little more dynamic?

You are probably nodding in agreement, but also thinking that would be great, if only your teams finances could stretch that far. Times are tight and this is probably not the season to ask the players (and in the case of youth leagues, their families) to pay extra for snazzier soccer jerseys, even if they would give the team a little bit of a ego boost to take the to the pitch in something a little cooler than the opposition.

Before you get those boring soccer jerseys back out of the closet to face another season, take a look at what one soccer uniforms supplier has come up with to solve this dilemma. Jerry Mac and the folks at totallysoccer.com are offering four fully customizable soccer jersey styles, at no additional charge. Choose from two of sixteen brilliant colors then mix and match them however you see fit to create a unique look that will make your side stand out on and off the pitch.

Sir Alex Says He Didn’t Steal French Soccer Starlet Pogba

16 Year Old Paul Pogba

16 Year Old Paul Pogba

In an off season that is about regrouping after the loss of superstar Cristiano Ronaldo and fan favorite Carlos Tevez, who choose to start their 2009/2010 seasons in Real Madrid and Manchester City soccer jerseys respectively, Sir Alex Ferguson has not made any major money moves to add players to his Manchester United squad.

He surprised many by signing 29 year old Michael Owen, a man whom many thought was well past his prime. Owen has rewarded that confidence with several goals during pre season play including one during his very first appearance in a Manchester United soccer jersey.

Sir Alex also has an eye for young talent. Paul Pogba is a sixteen year old Frenchman who currently plays for Le Harve. He has now been announced as Manchester United’s latest signing, a move that clearly upset the French club.

The club;s website published a statement last week, under the title of “ Manchester Unites steal Paul Pogba from HAC (Le Harve)” . It read “Le Havre wishes to express its indignation regarding the dealings of Manchester United’s directors in relation to the young Paul Pogba.

“The player and his parents refused to keep the arrangement because Manchester United offered very high sums of money to the parents of the (player) with the aim of obtaining the transfer of their son.

“At a time when numerous parties - including at European Union level, governmental (level), or within Fifa or Uefa - are speaking out against the ‘trading of minors,’ Manchester United does not hesitate to uproot a 16-year-old kid.”

For their part United deny the claim. According to a spokesman for the club “It is complete nonsense. Everything has been done within Uefa guidelines.”

Manchester United dealt with similar criticism in 2007 when they lured the 16 year old Federico Macheda away from Lazlo.

Right or wrong Manchester United have had great success with players signed on at a young age. David Beckham began his career in a professional soccer jersey at Old Trafford at 16, and Cristiano Ronaldo came to Old Trafford at 17. The afore- mentioned Macheda made a good impression in his debut senior season this year, scoring in his first two appearances.

The "Shrine" at St James' Park

The "Shrine" at St James' Park

As far as English soccer legends go Sir Bobby Robson was one of the most beloved, the world over. His playing career in the 1950s saw him don the soccer jerseys of both Fulham and West Bromwich Albion, and he had a respectable career for 17 years. But it was his managerial abilities that made him a legend and earned him a knighthood in 2002. His death last week at the age of 76 has hit the soccer world hard.

Ironically his last public appearance was on the Sunday before he died, watching former England players Paul Gasciogne, Peter Shilton and Alan Shearer play in England soccer jerseys once again in a charity match at St James’Park. All three players featured in the squad who as manager, Bobby Robson took to the World Cup in 1990, when a missed penalty cost England their first shot at a World Cup since they had won it in 1966.

Robson will be best remembered for his tenure as England manager, which spanned eight years, from 1982 until he resigned after the heartbreaking defeat in Turin. But he was also a successful club manager, managing northern club Ipswich for a then unheard of thirteen years. His last managerial post was at Newcastle United, which he managed to pull from the depths of the Premiership to a third place finish in the space of three years. He left in 2004 after disagreements with management but to Magpie fans he is still a revered figure.

Robson was already battling cancer when he left St James’ Park and his life has been a struggle with various forms of the disease ever since.

It is outside the gates of the home of Newcastle football, St James Park that a massive shrine to Robson has been building up throughout the week. Hundreds of soccer jerseys are mixed with flowers, placards and balloons.

And the tributes from his soccer colleagues have been innumerable. Paul Gascoigne, who was helped greatly by Robson and his wife during his own battle with drugs and alcohol, said “He gave me a chance to play in the World Cup. I can’t really talk that much because I just want to cry, that’s all.” Another 1990 England team veteran Peter Beardsley, summed up how all his players felt about him “”He protected the players. We didn’t always play well but whatever was said in those four walls, nothing ever left the dressing room. That was a sign of the man. He was a player’s man, first and foremost.”

Perhaps fellow managerial legend Sir Alex Ferguson had the most telling statement to make “The world, not just the football world, will miss him. Let’s hope it won’t be long before another like him turns up because we could never get enough of them.”

Manchester United’s Newest #7 Shows his Stuff.

Michael Owen back in action in a new soccer jersey

Michael Owen back in action in a new soccer jersey

When Cristiano Ronaldo left Manchester United for Real Madrid there was a lot of talk about who would take his storied #7 soccer jersey, a number that has been worn by the likes of David Beckham , Bryan Robson , George Best and other United legends and carries a special significance for many United fans and players alike.

Many felt that the soccer jersey should go to Wayne Rooney, but he is more than happy with his #10. Instead it now belongs to Sir Alex Ferguson’s surprise summer signing, Michael Owen. After the announcement many of the fans were unhappy with the decision, but during a press conference to discuss all things soccer (and many not, like his love of short shorts) the former CR7, who is now CR9, told reporters that he thought the club had made a good decision in handing his old soccer jersey number to Owen, whom he thought had a good future at Old Trafford.

Owen got to don the #7 soccer jersey for the first time during a friendly match against the Malaysia XI. Michael Owen, as a 17 year old scored in his first game for Liverpool, the club where he became a legend. In Kuala Lumpur on Saturday he scored in his first game as a Manchester United player, hitting the back of the net in the 84th minute to break a 2-2 tie.

Alex Ferguson was delighted with Owens’s play and the new #7 himself told the press that he was glad to have gotten off to such a great start in his first game in his new soccer jersey.

The team should have next travelled to Indonesia, but terrorist bomb attacks in Jakarta, one near the hotel were the team was booked to stay, have forced them to cancel the trip. Instead they will play a rematch against Malaysia then travel to China to complete their pre season tour.

Cristiano Won’t Add a C to his Soccer Jerseys

Original Ronaldo in action. Can you tell the difference?

Original Ronaldo in action. Can you tell the difference?

He’s only been there a few weeks but the world’s most expensive soccer player , Cristiano Ronaldo, is already challenging his new bosses at Real Madrid. Over what should appear on his soccer jersey of all things.

The marketing people at Real wanted to add a “C” to his Ronaldo on both the number 9 soccer jerseys he himself will play in and those replica soccer jerseys sold to fans. This of course would have distinguished him from “original” Ronaldo, the legendary Brazilian who up until three years ago was a Bernabeu boy himself, wearing the same number.

The marketing group worries that it will allow fans to reuse their old Ronaldo shirts and not fork over the $100+ that the new Ronaldo shirts are being sold for. One of the ways that Real Madrid expect their new signing to pay for himself is by selling replica soccer jerseys.

In fact Cristiano makes money out of the soccer jerseys too. As part of his complicated contract he is to receive a 50% share of the soccer jerseys revenue, so logic would suggest he too would want his fans to buy, buy, buy.

However, it seems Cristiano feels that he is now THE Ronaldo and there is no need for the extra identification. So far though, he may be right, as sales of his No.9 shirt have been going extremely well so far.

There is another little difficulty brewing though as well. Real Madrid president Florentino Perez has been trying to convince Cristiano to follow all his team mates and sign with Adidas Madrid instead of Nike with whom he currently contracted. Perez prefers his players to be Adidas affiliated, most of them have in the past, including Zidane and Beckham. So far, he has been unable to convince C. Ronaldo however, and some pundits feel it was no accident that he appeared at his first medical wearing a t shirt that had a huge Nike swoosh emblazoned across it.

Beckham Backtracks – Maybe he Would wear a Premiership Soccer Jersey Again

The soccer jersey Becks really wants to wear

The soccer jersey Becks really wants to wear

By now, anyone who follows international soccer knows that David Beckham will do almost anything to secure himself a place in an England soccer jersey in the 2010 World Cup. A complicated timeshare deal between the Becks stateside team, the LA Galaxy and the Serie A side Inter Milan allowed him to convince England manager Fabio Capello that he did still have the stuff needed to compete at the very highest level of the sport and it is still thought that it was some of David’s own money that went to the MLS to compensate them for his time away from the league.

Way back in 2003, when Beckham left Manchester United for Real Madrid, he said he would never turn out in an English club soccer jersey again. It is a position he has stuck to for six years, but this week it seems that the lure of that England soccer jersey has changed his mind. Or perhaps it is the slightly frosty welcome back he is getting from his LA team mates now that “the Becks is back”.

Yesterday a press conference was held primarily to dispel rumors that he and LA team mate Landon Donovan, who had some pretty scathing things to say about Beckham in recent weeks, are at war. According to the two they are “working things out.” But when asked about a possible return to the English Premiership once his Galaxy commitments are over at the end of the season this time he didn’t rule it out.

“Never say never. I would definitely consider it. When I left my heart was in Manchester - I couldn’t see myself playing against United. Now I wouldn’t rule it out.”

The question comes since his boss at Inter Milan, Carlos Ancelotti, has crossed the Channel to take over at Chelsea FC and has always been a big Beckham supporter.

The biggest prize of course would be one of those England soccer jerseys. Beckham has made appearances as a sub in recent qualifiers but Capello’s team is far from set. It seems that Beckham is still willing to do whatever is necessary to make sure his name is on the squad list in 2010.

British Lord wants Soccer Jerseys to do a Little Bit More.

Lord Putnam talking soccer jerseys

Lord Putnam talking soccer jerseys

Every aspect of the beautiful game is a big deal in England and it is not unusual to find politicians debating various aspects of the game of soccer. This week Lord Putnam, who back when he was just plain David Putnam produced the all time great sporting movie Chariots of Fire, took on the subject of big league soccer jersey sponsorship.

In an interview on the BBC Lord Putnam was complaining about the fact that big name clubs like Liverpool and Manchester United are not following fellow European giants Barcelona by using their soccer jerseys to help charity instead of sell ad space. Barcelona’s soccer jerseys promote UNICEF instead of a great corporate giant, and some of the proceeds from the sale of replica soccer jerseys go to the charity.

Lord Putnam questioned how soccer players feel about “being used as advertising hoardings” and questioned how one of his own favorite players, Ryan Giggs, Manchester United stalwart, felt when wearing a soccer jersey that advertised “a bankrupt and corrupt American insurance company across his chest”. Putnam feels that if big name clubs do something good with their soccer jerseys others may follow suit.

There is in fact one English Premiership club that has been doing just that for several years. Aston Villa FC soccer jerseys bear the logo of Acorns, a charity based in their home city of Birmingham that helps chronically ill children. So far though, they are the only ones in the Premiership to give up corporate money to help charity.

But with most soccer clubs, even the big boys, complaining about the effect that the poor economy is having on their business, this may not be the best time for Lord Putnam to make his suggestions, nor are they likely to be taken very seriously.

Manchester United Reveal New Soccer Jerseys – But are Ronaldo’s are Selling Better?

Park,Rooney and Ferdinand model their new soccer jerseys

Park,Rooney and Ferdinand model their new soccer jerseys

Manchester United has revealed their new soccer jerseys, and they are online ready for pre order. As modeled by Wayne Rooney and co the 2009/2010 soccer jerseys are quite a change. Much like the club itself right now. Just a few weeks after winning almost everything they wanted to win (heartbreaking loss to Barcelona notwithstanding) it is truly all change at Old Trafford right now.

The new soccer jerseys are designed to pay homage to the team that 100 years ago won United its very first FA cup. The biggest change is a large black chevron on the chest that dominates the whole shirt. The AIG logo remains for now as that old sponsorship deal still has a pre paid season to run.

The back of the new soccer jerseys is a little unusual, they feature a mesh that is a series of smaller versions of the chevron on the front, which, according to manufacturers is designed to offer increased ventilation during games.

The new soccer jerseys will not be worn by certain members of the 2009 winning team however. Despite all his assurances in the press that he was staying at Old Trafford, Cristiano Ronaldo is gone, and Real Madrid are already raking in big bucks on their “Ronaldo Hero” replica soccer jerseys, and fan favorite Carlos Tevez will not be returning either. Sir Alex took a gamble by signing Michael Owen, once a superstar but whose brand has faded in the last few years.

There is apparently a distinct lack of enthusiasm about Owen from the Manchester United fans at the moment. When one reporter called the official Manchester United superstore to inquire about what number might be printed on the back of a Michael Owen replica soccer jersey, the woman who answered him had no idea, since she said no one had asked about it yet.

Micheal Owen – A Surprise Move puts him in a Manchester United Soccer Jersey

Owen is a surprise signing for Manchester United

Owen is a surprise signing for Manchester United

Once upon a time, in 1997, an 18 year old striker stunned the English Premier League ( which was just the plain old First Division back then) with his skills, scoring more goals than any other player that season. That wonder kid was Michael Owen and he sported a Liverpool F.C soccer jersey back then.

Despite injury problems, he reigned as the big attraction at Anfield until 2004, even getting to don the England captain’s soccer jersey on several occasions as well. In that season, frustrated by Liverpool’s lack of a championship he made the move to Real Madrid, just as so many are this season.

Life in Spain did not go so well, and since then many have considered Owen’s soccer career to be in freefall. He came home to play in a Newcastle United soccer jersey in 2005 and gave solid performances, but the trouble the club ran into this year, and what some critics saw as his lack of effort as Newcastle battled relegation, seemed to bolster the validity of that opinion of his game.

Everyone knew Michael Owens was done with Newcastle Utd. Some thought he would go to Hull or Aston Villa, both Premiership clubs but neither with the marquee power of Liverpool. Others insisted he was done with the game at 29. His agent produced a glossy booklet which was sent to all the Premiership managers, highlighting his client’s achievements in various soccer jerseys over the years, apparently to show that Owen did indeed want to stay on the pitch.

So it was a big surprise to everybody when Sir Alex Ferguson decided to spend some of the $136+ Manchester United just received from Real Madrid for Cristiano Ronaldo by signing Micheal Owen last Thursday. Some fans think it is all a waste of time, but Ferguson has a good history when it comes to playing a hunch. Manchester United legend Eric Cantona was not even a regular at Leeds United any more when Sir Alex signed him, and Teddy Sherringham, also considered past his prime when he became a Manchester United player, played his best years with the club. What Owen will do in a Manchester United soccer jersey remains to be seen, but it should certainly be worth watching.

Replica Soccer Jerseys – Is that how Real Madrid will Pay for Kaka and Ronaldo?

Fans lining up to welcome Ronaldo

Fans lining up to welcome Ronaldo

In the last few weeks Spanish La Liga giants Real Madrid have been on a shopping spree like no other before. In a time of world financial downfall, one might wonder how they are going to afford to pay for their expensive off season signings, especially the massive salaries being promised to both Kaka and Cristiano Ronaldo?

One of the obvious answers is through the sales of replica soccer jerseys. One visit to the official Real Madrid website and it is apparent that the push is already on. Fans are being encouraged to pre order “hero” soccer jerseys emblazoned with the new signings names and numbers.

The tactic has worked before. In 2003 when another former Manchester United player, David Beckham joined the club , they sold one million soccer jerseys bearing his name in the first six month alone. During his stay at the Bernabeu it is estimated that $600 million worth of Beckham soccer jerseys and other related merchandise was sold to eager fans, increasing the club’s profits by 137% in four seasons.

Marketing experts predict that Ronaldo can have the same, if not a bigger impact on merchandising sales. He will be officially presented as a Real player today, Kaka had his unveiling last week. The club expects 80,000 fans to be in attendance for the event, more than Argentinean legend Diego Maradona drew when he moved to Naples in 1984, the previous record. The Ronaldo replica soccer jerseys are being offered for about $93 on the official website. A little simple math reveals the potential revenue that is there in the stands.
